The Neil Squire Society is a national not-for-profit organization that has for over twenty-eight years empowered Canadians with physical disabilities through the use of computer-based assistive technologies, research and development and employment programs. We help our clients remove barriers so that they can live independent lives and become active members of the workplace and our society. Specializing in education and workplace empowerment, the Society has served over 25,000 people since 1984.

Ergonomic and Assistive Technology Services

The increased use of computers in our places of work has given rise to many computer-related problems. This can include wrist pain from typing, thumb and finger pain from holding and clicking a mouse, headaches and vision problems from looking at a monitor, and back pain from prolonged sitting.

Our corporate ergonomic and assistive technology services include:

  • Advanced office ergonomic assessments
  • Ergonomic reviews or audits of your workplace
  • Return-to-work and stay-at-work strategies, from simple to complex cases, including accommodation of repetitive strain injuries
  • Assistive technology assessments and training, including state-of-the-art voice recognition systems
  • Aging workforce assessments and accommodations
  • Education and training sessions in ergonomics and assistive technology for groups or individuals
  • Integration of assistive software and/or hardware within your current technology systems
  • Sourcing and procurement of recommended equipment including desks, chairs, computer hardware and software

Job Placement Services

We offer a range of services for employers at no cost:

  • Advertising of existing vacancies in the Job Focus Resource Centre;
  • Recruiting and screening of potential candidates for available part-time, full-time, or volunteer positions;
  • Assisting with the planning and orientation of participants to enhance their value to your organization;
  • Providing flexible support and ongoing follow-up services;
  • If necessary, we also provide assistance with workplace set-up and accommodations; and,
  • In some cases, we may even offer a wage subsidy to reduce the cost of on-the-job
